On our baby-moon trip to Key West, I about drove my husband insane by stopping every 30 feet to take a picture front door on the island. If you’ve been to Key West, you know that it’s home to some of the best porches in the country. And while I have navigated its streets a time or twenty, I’ve always been on a mission to get to a bar or stumble to a bus, it was certainly not for a front door documentary tour.
I had NO idea what I was going to do with a card full of the architectural details of the Conch Republic—until a few years ago I was asked to do a painted rendering of someone’s front door for some stationary.
Light bulb.
When I finished the job, I dug out the folder of doors and went to town. Now they they sit back in a folder waiting for something to be done with them. I thought, some note cards? Bar glasses? Who knows what their fate will be. Until then, I’ll share a few with you here.
